New Delhi, Sep 13, 2022: Recoveries of illicit weapons and incriminating documents besides exposing a gangster-terrorist nexus by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after raiding more than 50 places in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Chandigarh and Delhi-NCR have left agencies worried. The agency has registered two FIRs in Punjab and Haryana.

Sources say that the agencies, including NIA, were working on from last eight months to break the gangster- terrorist nexus, which came to light after the Patiala jail break and the RPG attack at Mohali police intelligence wing headquarters.

The joint operations launched by NIA with local police resulted in the recovery of six illegal weapons, 90 live cartridges and 10 mobile phone sets from the Yamunanagar residence of gangster Virender Pratap Singh alias Kala Rana.

The mastermind of Sidhu Moosewala murder, Goldy Brar’s Muktsar residence was also searched for nearly three hours. The NIA team recovered one mobile SIM card from the gangster’s residence.

NIA also took into possession some documents from the residence of gangster Gaurav Patial alias Lucky.

Similarly, two mobile phone sets and some documents were also recovered from jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuriya’s Batala, Gurdaspur residence.

Hours of search at jailed Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s Dutaranwali, Abohar residence resulted in the recovery of one mobile set and two mobile SIM cards. NIA officials also took away with them the DVR of CCTV cameras.

Senior Punjab police officials say Pakistan’s ISI was hell-bent to revive terrorism in Punjab and was exploiting the gangster- terror nexus.

Investigations have revealed that the Pakistan-based Khalistani terrorists and gangsters, who crossed over during the past decade, were not only radicalizing but were also luring the gullible unemployed youths by offering them small amounts of money.

Sources say, at least ten dreaded gangs being run by the A class gangsters were on the radar of the agencies from quite some time.

Gangster-turned-terrorist, Harvinder Singh Rinda, who is based at Pakistan, is believed to have been in touch with over a thousand criminals including well-known gangsters. The gangsters who are believed to be in touch with him include Harjinder Singh Akash, Pradeep Chana, Jaipal Bhullar and Dilpreet Daha.

Sources also say that the intelligence wing of the Indian Army was also separately investigating the gangster- terrorist connections.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up at various places including the Indo-Pak border after the inputs that the terror groups can target the coming festivals. Sources say that a gang war between the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and its arrivals, including the Lucky Patial-Bambiha-Kaushal Chaudhary gang-Sunil Balyan alias Tillu Tajpuriya-Neeraj Sehrawat alias Bawaniya gangs can take place.

"We are keeping an eye on the activities of these criminals and the district police chiefs have been instructed accordingly," DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav said.
