Will resign from BJP on November 30: Yeddyurappa

Bangalore, Nov 27, 2012: Former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa after months of attacking the senioraders of BJP has finally decided to leave the party this month end, and said on Tuesday 27 November that his decision was final.

“My decision is final. I am going to leave the party. I am going to resign my constituency seat on 30 November,” he informed. Yeddyurappa also made it clear that he will go ahead with the launch of his political party Karnataka Janatha Paksha (KJP) on 9 December.

Running on corruption allegations last year, Yeddyurappa was asked to step down from his post of CM by the party high command. Yeddyurappa felt that he was sacrificed in order to corner the scam ridden UPA government; and held MP Ananth Kumar and BJP patriach LK Advani responsible for the party’s decision. Time and again, Yeddyurappa made his displeasure known to the senior leaders and demanded that he be reappointed CM.

Yeddyurappa had threatened that if the BJP high command failed to accede to his demands he would quit the party and would take 50-60 BJP MLAs to form a party of his own.

Over the past few months, relations between Yeddyurappa and the state BJP have been strained. Not giving plum posts to his supporters in the new Jagadish Shettar cabinet, not issuing Rajya Sabha ticket to his supporter Putttuswamy and sacking of Dhananjay Kumar from the party was read by Yeddyurappa as personal attack against him by the high command.

The state BJP fearing backlash of the majority Lingayat community of any eventuality of Yeddyurppa exit, tried to hold him back in the party. Yeddyurappa, however, refused to meet any member of the senior party.

Yeddyurappa who looks all set to launch his political party in December is confident of getting a majority in the coming assembly election in May. Critics, however, are not so optimistic, but contend that, if he forms the party, there is a fair chance that he would garner enough seats to play the king maker in the expected fractured election mandate of 2013.
