Tumkur, February 16, 2012: Even as the State government plans to launch emergency services for cattle, a woman was forced to deliver in the premises of a hospital in Honnudike village of the taluk on Wednesday, courtesy, a locked primary health centre (PHC).
Sharadamma, a resident of Somasagara, close to Honnudike, was brought to the PHC Wednesday noon for delivery. The hospital was locked and Sharadamma laid down on the hospital premises, writhing in pain and awaiting the arrival of a doctor.
The residents of Honnudike noticed the plight of the woman who was screaming with pain. With no other option, a few women decided to conduct the delivery. The women brought clothes from their homes to create an enclosure for Sharadamma. Later in the evening, a fatigued Sharadamma was shifted to Tumkur district hospital by 108 ambulance. A resident told Deccan Herald over the phone that the doctor at the hospital went on leave after a quarrel.
“We had brought her back after great effort. But she was suspended over a trivial matter.
Now, there is no doctor for two months,” he said.
