Yet to take stand on pay hike: CM Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, Feb 09, 2018 : The state government has not taken a stand on the 6th Pay Commission’s recommendation to hike salaries of government employees by 30%, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told the Legislative Council on Thursday.

 

"I have not even read the report. It is yet to come up before the Cabinet. The Commission has recommended a 30% hike on the basic salary of employees, and a 30% hike for pensioners. I am not in a position to discuss this because the government has not taken a stand," Siddaramaiah said. He was replying to a query by JD(S) MLC K T Srikantegowda, who sought details on the 6th Pay Commission’s recommendations and their implementation.

Siddaramaiah added that the 6th Pay Commission, headed by retired IAS officer M R Srinivas Murthy, had submitted only the first volume of its report on January 31.

The pay hike, if implemented, will apply to 5.2 lakh state government employees, 5.73 lakh pensioners and 73,000 employees working in aided institutions, local bodies and the non-teaching staff of colleges and universities.

The pay revision, allowances and pension as recommended by the commission is estimated to cost the government Rs 10,508 crore annually.
