New Delhi, April 13, 2022: Staging a massive protest outside the residence of Home Minister Amit Shah, workers of the Indian Youth Congress demanded the sacking of Karnataka minister KS Eshwarappa who has been booked in the suicide case of contractor Santosh Patil.

Protest

"Santosh Patil while committing suicide has clearly said in his last words that BJP minister KS Eshwarappa’s 40 per cent commission demand made him take such an extreme step," the youth Congress alleged, demanding that the minister is sacked.

Karnataka minister KS Eshwarappa and his aides Basavaraj and Ramesh have been booked in the suicide case of contractor Santosh Patil. An FIR has also been filed against the minister in connection with the case and Eshwarappa has been summoned by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Eshwarappa and his aides have been booked for abetment of suicide. The case was registered in Udipi on the complaint of Patil’s brother Prashanth.

However, Eshwarappa said he had never seen or met Santosh Patil, the contractor who killed himself after accusing the minister of indulging in corruption. "I have never seen or met this person. The letter that was written to the Centre was forwarded to our department and our Principal Secretary Atiq Ahmed had replied to it. There is nothing on record to show that civil works were allocated to them [Patil]. There is no question of payment. Our department informed the Centre as well," he said.

Contractor Santosh Patil, who had accused Karnataka minister KS Eshwarappa of corruption, was found dead in a lodge in Udupi on Tuesday. Prashant Patil, brother of Santosh Patil, has blamed Eshwarappa for his brother’s demise.Prashant Patil said, "Eshwarappa is responsible for my brother’s death. He sought a bribe or commission [from contractor Santosh Patil]. He then filed a defamation case. Patil had received threats too."
