Zika virus case reported in Kerala, 24-year-old woman in Thiruvananthapuram infected

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 08, 2021: A 24-year-old woman from Parassala in Thiruvananthapuram has been found infected with Zika virus, state health minister Veena George said on Thursday.

The woman, who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, began showing symptoms on June 28.

The woman, who was pregnant, delivered her baby on June 7. Her condition is said to be stable as of now.

Though she does not have any travel history outside the state, her house is on the Tamil Nadu border.

A week ago, her mother had also shown similar symptoms. The symptoms of Zika are similar to dengue including fever, skin rashes and joint pain.

13 others are suspected to have contracted the virus. The state government, however, is awaiting confirmation from the National Institute of Virology in Pune.
