Goa, February 17, 2025: "If there is any field fully dedicated to public service, it would be journalism and politics. Ordinary citizens have placed great trust and expectations on these two areas. If we move forward together with the welfare of this land in mind, it will be possible to create a conducive environment for the country’s development", said U.T. Khader, Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Indian Journalists’ Union’s National Executive Committee meeting and National Conference-2025 held on February 14 at the Kolmar Beach Resort Stadium in Colva, Goa, Khader emphasized that journalists are the guardians of democracy. He acknowledged that there might be ups and downs in their work but stated that journalists have ensured the protection of the constitutional essence in the country today. He also praised the media world for the many changes it has undergone, noting that despite these changes, several media outlets have maintained professionalism, which is commendable. He expressed the hope that such events would increase in frequency. Khader also assured that journalists should receive more cooperation from the government and that he would focus on this matter.

Shree Mahantesh Swamiji of Ilkal Math, Rajya Sabha member E. K. Kadadi, Indian Journalists’ Union President K.P. Pandit, President of Karnataka Journalists’ Association Murugesh Shivapooji, and Vice-President Sudesh Kumar were present at the event.

During this national assembly, presidents from various states discussed the challenges in the journalism field. About 250 journalists from around 20 states participated in a conversation on the topics of print media and digital media after noon, engaging in a dialogue with senior journalists based on their experiences, which concluded the discussions for the day.

During this event, Dr. Subbanna Shetty (81), a distinguished doctor in the field of medicine (ophthalmology), was honored with the IJU National Achievement Award-2025.

Priya Sudesh hosted the program.

In the evening, during the closing ceremony, former Chief Minister of Goa Digambar Kamat was the chief guest and spoke. On the stage, Ankali Math’s Swamiji, President of the Goa Kannada Association Basavaraj Methi, and other dignitaries were present.

Senior journalists who participated in the event were honored at the gathering.
