Mangaluru, February 10, 2025: Former Minister Krishna J. Palemar stated that it is our duty to recognize and honor individuals who work selflessly for the betterment of society. He made this statement while presenting the 2024 annual Mangaluru Press Club Award to corporator Ganesh Kulal during the Mangaluru Press Club Day celebration held on Sunday at Palemar Garden.
He praised Ganesh Kulal’s service to society, calling it exemplary and rare. He also noted that just as journalists helped Harekala Hajabba gain national recognition, he hopes that Kulal’s service will also receive recognition at a higher level.
Inaugurating the event, former mayor Divakar Kadri emphasized that journalists should not hesitate to present the truth to the public. He acknowledged the significant contributions of journalists to the development of society.
Ganesh Kulal, who has conducted over 1,500 funeral services, was honored with the Press Club Award.
Dignitaries in attendance
The event was presided over by Mangaluru Press Club President P.B. Harish Rai. Founder President K. Anand Shetty presented talent awards to the children of journalists.
Several notable dignitaries attended the event, including Mayor Manoj Kumar Kodikal, Deputy Mayor Bhanumathi, former mayors Sudheer Shetty Kannur and Premananda Shetty, Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Association President Srinivas Indaje, Press Club Trust President Ramakrishna R, State Committee Member of the Journalists’ Association Jagannath Shetty Bala, former Press Club President Annu Mangaluru, and former District Journalists’ Association President B. Ravindra Shetty.
Executive Committee members of the Press Club, including Atmabhushan Bhat, R.C. Bhat, and Harish Motukana, introduced the awardees and meritorious students.
Press Club General Secretary Ibrahim Adkasthala delivered the vote of thanks, while journalists Lokesh Rai and Nikhil compered the event.
Felicitation of achievers
Senior journalists Mohammad Arif Padubidri, Bhaskar Rai Katta, Jitendra Kundeshwar, Satish Ira, and Raghuram Nayak were honored with the Press Club Honorary Award.
Additionally, Karnataka Media Academy Award winners U.K. Kumaranath, Annu Mangaluru, Ibrahim Adkasthala, Vijaya Kotyan, and Sandhya Hegde were felicitated, along with District Rajyotsava Award recipients I.B. Sandeep Kumar, Pushparaj B.N., and Sukhpal Polali B.N.
A total of 19 children of journalists who achieved outstanding marks in SSLC and PUC exams were also honored with talent awards.
