Mangalore, Feb 23, 2013 : ‘Konkani Abhiman’ a programme aimed at encouraging non-Konkani speaking people to speak the language, was organised by the Konkani Sahitya Academy at its office at Lalbagh on February 22, Friday.
Noted Tulu theatrical personality Vijaykumar Kodialbail and Prof. BM Hegde, former chancellor of Manipal University, won admiration by speaking in Konkani language.
In his address,Prof Hegde said any language can develop when people have a love for the language. He also suggested the Academy to think in terms of translating Konkani books to other languages and vice versa.
Vijaykumar Kodialbail, who also spoke in Konkani said as many of his associates in childhood were Konkanis, he had got an opportunity to learn and understand the language.
Sri Keshavananda Bharathi Theertha Swamiji of Edneer Mutt, blessed the occasion. He also rendered some Konkani songs.
Kasargod Chinna, President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy who presided over the function said the Konkani Abhiman programme was a small experiment initiated by the Academy to gauge the interest shown by people in speaking Konkani language.
Roy Castelino welcomed the gathering and Ashok Shet proposed the vote of thanks.
