"Nitte should focus on training medical practitioners under AYUSH": Shripad Yesso Naik

Mangaluru, November 12, 2024: KS Hegde Medical Academy a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed to be University) at Deralakate is celebrating its Silver Jubilee. During this event, t Union Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik addressed the gathering and praised the institution for its significant contributions to education. He described K S Hegde Medical Academy as a globally recognized model of excellence in higher education, with a strong legacy in academic achievement. He also noted that the founder’s vision of offering high-quality education to society has been fulfilled.

He emphasized the importance of training traditional medicine practitioners under the AYUSH (Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy), thereby fostering the preservation and promotion of the country’s rich heritage in traditional medicine can be carried further.

He also mentioned that the Nitte Education Trust, with campuses in Mangalore and Bangalore, serves around 25,000 students and employs 4,500 staff members. Additionally, a lakh of its extensive alumni contributes to making it a valuable institution for the nation.

Retired Lokayukta Justice N. Santosh Hegde stated that Nitte has made a notable contribution to society by contributing numerous achievers in the field of higher education.

Mamatha Hegde, daughter of the late Chief Minister of Karnataka State Ramakrishna Hegde, who was instrumental in supporting the establishment of KS Hegde Medical Academy, along with former Vice Chancellors of Nitte (Deemed to be University) Dr. Sudhakar Karanth, Dr. Shantharam Shetty, and Dr. Satish Kumar Bhandari, were honored with felicitations.

A souvenir to mark the Silver Jubilee of  K.S. Hegde Medical Academy was unveiled on the occasion.

The function was presided over by N. Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte (Deemed University). He highlighted that the institution has been diligently serving the medical field for the past 25 years. Currently, 23 rural health centers are operational, providing care to approximately 1,000 patients daily. He attributed the success of these initiatives, particularly in rural dentistry, to advancements in the field that have made effective services possible in remote areas. He also credited the establishment of Nitte University is due to the  collective hard work of everyone, inspired by his mother’s advice to serve the underprivileged and offer care to poor patients.

The program was attended by Vishal Hegde, Vice-Chancellor of the Administration Department of Nitte Pariganita University, Chancellor Dr. M.S. Moodithaya, Nitte Education Trust Financial Planning Director Rajendra M., Administration Department member Rohit Poonja, and Vice Dean of the Health Administration Department Dr. Jayaprakash Shetty K.

Vice Dean of Kshema Medical Academy, Dr. Amrit Mirajkar, and Medical Superintendent Dr. Sumalatha R. Shetty of K.S. Hegde Hospital were also present at the function.

Vice Chancellor Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty extended a warm welcome, while Registrar of Nitte (DU) Dr. Harsha Halahali expressed gratitude to everyone who participated in the function. Dr. Ankita Menon and Divya were mastered the ceremony.
