Mangalore, March 25: The inaugural function of ‘InfoVISION-2010’- IT and Life Science exhibition was conducted by the IT section of AIMIT took place at 10 am on Thursday, 24th March 2010.

The programme began with a prayer song followed by lighting of the lamp at the AIMIT auditorium of St Aloysius College, at Beeri, Kotekar. Prof. Santosh Rebello, the Dean of IT section   welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering. He briefed the audience about  InfoVISION  and  how life science has become part of IT which lead to the theme ‘This time we GO GREEN’.


He introduced Rev. Fr Dr. Leo D’Souza SJ, Director of Applied Biology Research Center of St Aloysius College, Mangalore Mr. Praveen Kumar Kalabavi, Senior Delivery Manager, Infosys Technologies, Mangalore, Fr.Jeevan Prabhu,the Dean ( Fin & Admin) , Fr.Denzil Lobo,The Director of AIMIT, Programme co-ordinators, Prof.Rohini Rao and Prof.Deborah Vijay and the student co-ordinators  of InfoVISION Mr.Swathanthra Singh and Mr Irshad S. The student co-ordinator of InfoVISION 2010.


Mr Irshad introduced the chief guest. Mr. Praveen Kalbhavi. “IT industry has grown dramatically and it is $50-$60 billion business for India said Mr Kalbhavi. He said that there is humongous potential for business and India is very much respected because we added value to our products and that there has been very good commitment and dedication which has made all the difference.  He also said, “there is huge market for IT and ITES industry, of the magnitude of $trillions.” He stressed that students need to work hard, be curious and ask questions, improve communication skills and concentrate on learning and not just preparing for exams. 


Fr. Leo D’Souza SJ addressed the audience with an example of how people thought it was impossible to mix oil and water in comparison with Biology and technology. But some decades back the views of the people gradually changed. He also described the consequences if we do not work with nature. He informed us about the endless possibilities of the IT sector and concluded wishing the participants by motivating them to bring forth new ideas to work with nature. 


Fr.Denzil Lobo SJ said, “Clapping at one place would trigger a cyclone miles away”. Citing this quote he said Fr Leo’s contribution many years back has  caused tremendous growth at St Aloysius College.. He reminded us of Gandhiji’s thought ,” There is sufficiency for needs of a man  and not for his greed”, indicating that the recession and global warming are due to the greed of man. He portrayed   the theme GO GREEN, of InfoVISION 2010 and advised the students to practice it  in our day-to-day livesFr. Jeevan Prabhu Dean, Finance and Administrator gave a token of affection to the chief guest, Mr Praveen Kalbhavi and Prof. Rohini Rao proposed the Vote of Thanks.
