Mangalore, May 4: Al Wafa, a charitable trust in Mangalore, organized a mass marriage ceremony at Shadi Mahal in Bolar on May 4, Wednesday, during which 14 couples tied the knot.


 

 

 

 


Thwaqa Ahmed Musliyar, the Qazi of Mangalore, conducted the Nikah. He said in his address that dowry is a curse on the Muslim community and that mass marriage provides temporary relief to poor girls who cannot afford to pay dowries. He said that the best solution to the problem of dowry is to stop giving and taking dowry altogether, adding that seminars should be organized to educate the people about the evils of dowry.


Ibrahim Musliyar Bekar, the Qazi of Udupi, inaugurated the event. Muhammad Badruddin, the chairman of Al Wafa Charitable Trust presided. Former minister B. A. Moideen, MLA U. T. Khader, Bearys’ Welfare Association President Muhammad Ali Uchil, and Ibrahim Goonadka, the state assistant commissioner for disabled persons, were the chief guests.

 

 

 


The organizers gave each couple gold ornaments, wedding attire, and gifts worth Rs. 1.25 lakh. Abdul Khader Amchinadka, the chairman of RM Group Bangalore, wished the newly weds well. Umar U. H. delivered the welcome address. G. Mohammed Haneef delivered the vote of thanks and B. A. Mohammed Ali was the MC.

K. S. Hameed of Prithvi Developers and Builders; H. M. Afroz Assadi, the director of Northern Insurance, Dubai; B. M. Sharief of White Stone Developers; K. S. Sayeed Karnire; N. Ahmed of Bangalore; Abdul Khader Arkula of Fayaz Enterprises; and M. A. K. Nazeer of Civil Tech; were present on the occasion.
