16 child labourers rescued from Malpe port

Udupi, Nov 03, 2022: In an early morning operation by the authorities at the Malpe port on November 3, Wednesday morning as many as 16 minors who were found  working at the port were rescued. The operation was jointly conducted by the District Administration, Udupi ZP, Department of Women and Child Development and Child Protection Unit. Labour Department, Social Welfare Department, Udupi CMC, Education, Police Departments, Child Helpline, Udupi District Nagarika Seva Trust and  Hombelaku Manipal.

All the rescued children were of Koppala, Davanagere origin. Eleven of them were girls and the rest five were boys. All the children have been shifted to the Child Welfare Committee, Nittoor where rehabilitation arrangements have been made for them.

Child Protection unit Officer Kumar Naik, Labour Officer Kumar, Labour Inspector Vijendra, CMC Officer Nagaraj, social workers Yogish, Ambika,  Nagarika Seva Trust leader Nityananda Olakadu and others were part of the operation.
