Mangaluru, Aug 18, 2022: As many as 16 fish meal factories in Ullal and Mukka areas have suspended operations for violating water and air pollution control norms. The measure was taken in accordance to an order from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board which had directed the DC to shut the fish meal units. The MESCOM MD was also directed to snap electricity connection to the units.
Accordingly, the officials visited the factories and sealed down the fish meal units. Even power supply has been disconnected.
The factories had earlier been directed to install bio filters to treat the waste water before releasing them to the sea. However some of the plants failed to adhere to the order while others though had bio-filters the same were not functional.
