16-year-old girl from Madikeri drowns at Malpe Beach

Udupi, August 6, 2023: In a tragic incident on a Saturday night around 8:30, a young girl named Manya (16) from Madikeri lost her life while playing in the waters of Malpe Beach. Alongside her, Yashaswini (16) was miraculously rescued in the same mishap.

The two girls had left their homes three days prior and spent time at Panambur Beach before arriving at Malpe Beach later in the evening. Tragically, while enjoying the sea, they were swept away by powerful waves, leading to a distressing drowning incident.

Fortunately, expert swimmers from the Malpe lifeguard team were able to rescue them and bring them ashore. Manya, who was in critical condition, was being taken to the hospital when she succumbed on the way. Yashaswini, on the other hand, was admitted to a private hospital in Udupi and is reported to be out of danger.
