Mangalore, Jan 13: The 21st National Road Safety Week, jointly organized by Dakshina Kannada district administration, the police department, and the Road Transport Office (RTO), under the motto “Life is safe if driving is safe,” was inaugurated today at the Police Guest House, Mangalore, by Dr. H R Deshpande, the Justice of District Session Court, DK.
The Justice said that laws are made the safety and benefits of the public; despite this, people are reluctant to follow the laws. The authorities, for this reason, must strive harder to get people to follow the rules. If the general public co-operates with the authorities, a number of crimes and accidents can be prevented and a number of lives can be saved, he said.
District Commissioner V Ponnuraj, in his presidential address, stressed the need to follow traffic rules and safety guidelines. He spoke about the role of the RTO in maintaining traffic law and order. He also informed the audience about the district administration’s plans to shift the bus stand to Pump Well to control the traffic within the city.
IGP of Western Range Gopal B Hosur, SP Dr. A. S. Rao; Additional SP Ramesh; and Regional Transport Officer Purushottam were the dignitaries on the dais.
