Mangalore, May 1: Twenty-six couples tied the knot at a mass marriage ceremony organized by the St. Vincent de Paul (SVP) Sabha in Rosario Cathedral on May 1, Sunday. Fr. Robert Miranda, the bishop of Gulbarga Diocese, and Fr. Stany Goveas, the parish priest of Rosario Church, celebrated the Holy Mass and blessed the newly weds.

Addressing the couples and their relatives, the bishop said that cooperation and understanding are the keys to a happy married life, adding that St. Vincent de Paul Sabha is a social welfare organization that helps poor families financially.

The chief guest of the formal function held after the mass marriage ceremony was Steven M. P. Dais. Herald Monteiro, the vice president of the SVP central council; Joachim Monteiro, the president of SVP; Pilomena Lobo, the secretary of SVP, were also the dignitaries on the dais.

Fr. Stany Goveas delivered the welcome address. Ravikumar D’Souza and Priyadarshini D’Souza lit the lamp on behalf of all the 26 newly wed couples. Each couple received gifts worth Rs. 3,000 and a fixed deposit of Rs. 5000. Roshan Paul D’Souza and Shwetha proposed the vote of thanks on behalf of all the couples.

Molly D’Souza, a member of SVP, was the MC for the church programme while Alwyn Tauro was the MC for the formal function. SVP Vice President C. J. Simon proposed the vote of thanks.
