Mangalore, April 28: Three Carmelite deacons Godwin Arun Pinto, Jason Tellis, and Elias D’Cunha were ordained at different localities. While Rev. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangalore Diocese, conferred the Holy Orders on Deacon Godwin Pinto at Gangolli, his home parish on April 26, Rev. Henry D’Souza, the bishop of Bellary, conferred the Holy Orders on Deacon Jason Tellis and Deacon Elias D’Cunha on April 19 at Infant Jesus Shrine in Mangalore.
A large number of people participated in this event and nearly 60 priests concelebrated the Holy Eucharist. The bishop in his homily spoke of the importance of priests and thanked God for providing 3 more new priests. The liturgy was animated by Fr. Melwyn D’Cunha.
Of the newly ordained priests, Fr. Godwin Pinto, the son of Karmin Pinto and John Santhan, is from Our Lady of Immaculate Conception parish in Gangolli. Fr. Jason Tellis, the son of Celine and Thomas Tellis, is from St. Francis Xavier Church in Mudarangadi. Fr. Elias D’Cunha, the son of Sylvester and Lilly D’Cunha, is from St. Francis Zavier Church in Anegudde.
The ordination ceremony, which lasted for 2 hours, was followed by a brief felicitation progrmme, during which the newly ordained priests were honored by Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves, the provincial superior.
