Mangalore, Sep 27, 2012: The bishops of Bellary and Mangalore announced at a press conference held in the Bishop’s House, Mangalore on September 26, Wednesday that a 3-day youth convention will be held on September 28 – 30 at Belthangady.
Called Karnataka Yuvajanothsava 2012, it will be organized by the youth commission of the Karnataka Regional Catholic Bishop’s Council and hosted by the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of Belthangady Diocese.
The event is expected to attract over 5000 young leaders and will end with a peace rally on September 30.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will inaugurate the event in the presence of Mangalore Bishop Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Belthangady Bishop Lawrence Mukkuzy, Puttur Bishop Geevarghese Mar Divannasios, and Bellary Bishop Henry D’Souza. The peace rally on September 30 will be flagged off by Vincent Pala, union minister of state for water resources and minority affairs.
The public function after the peace rally will be presided over by Bangalore Archbishop Bernard Moras. Several bishops of Karnataka, along with Union Minister for Corporate Affairs Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, Vincent Pala, MP Oscar Fernandes, MLA K. Vasanth Bangera, philanthropist Ronald Colaco, and others will be present.
The Karnataka Yuva Catholic Ratna Awards will be conferred on young achievers on this occasion. The award winners are Roshan Ferrao of Mangalore (sports), Sabita Monis of Moodubidri, Cajetan Dias of Honnavar, and Jose Jacob of Bangalore.
A thanksgiving mass, with Archbishop Bernard Moras as the chief celebrant and the Catholic bishops of Karnataka as the concelebrants, will be held at the end of the convention.
ICYM Director (Mangalore Diocese) Fr. Ronald D’Souza, ICYM President Mangalore Nelson Monis, Secretary Sheldon, and others were also present at the press meet.
