Mangalore, January 29: Mangalore North Police arrested 6 persons who were involved in the distribution of fake currency near Car Street on Jan 27, Thursday.


Fake Currency


The arrested are Baarul Islam alias Raja (22), Kishore Singh (21), Prabharani Topu (20), Shobha Topu (20), Ranjan Sasani (19), and Santhosh Sasani (20), all of whom hail from Assam. 

They were caught red-handed while trying to distribute 24 fake notes of Rs 1,000 each. Police have confiscated the fake notes along with a profit of Rs 7000, which the arrested netted while distributing the fake notes. 

Allegedly, Zakir of Chennai is the chief supplier of fake notes. The 6 confessed that they used to make a profit of Rs 300 for every fake note circulated at the rate of 30 percent commission.

The operation, which was headed by Inspector Vinay A Gaonkar, was undertaken by Sub Inspector Manjunath K R and his team.
