Mangaluru, December 31, 2024: A total of 804 personnel will be deployed by Mangaluru City Police across the city to ensure peaceful conduct of year-end celebrations on Tuesday night.

In a press release, Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal said police permission has been taken for 49 New Year events in the city. Three Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), eight Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), 20 police inspectors (PIs), 57 police sub inspectors (PSIs), 76 assistant sub inspectors (ASIs), 570 head constables/police constables (HCs/PCs) and 70 home guards will be deployed from Tuesday afternoon till 6 a.m. on January 1.

Picket points

Police personnel will be deployed at all NY programme venues to maintain safety. To deter anti-social elements, 103 picket points have been set up at vital locations. Barricade check points are set up at 19 places to monitor and regulate vehicular movement and also keep eye on notorious activities.

Sixty sector mobiles, headed by PSIs, will patrol all areas under city police jurisdiction. Thirty flying squads, headed by PSIs, will focus on curbing drug peddling, consumption, and other illegal activities. Quick-response teams, which include three KSRP platoons and 10 City Armed Reserve parties, will be stationed at strategic places.

To facilitate smooth traffic flow and prevent mishaps, 17 traffic barricade points, eight drunken driving check points and 47 other traffic points have been set up.

Special team

A special team comprising of an ACP, two PIs and six PSIs will be deployed from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. This team will ensure proper monitoring late into the night and up to the early morning hours, supplementing the existing bandobast. Senior officers, including DCPs, ACPs and PIs, will supervise overall activities within their respective limits. The bandobast will start from afternoon and will continue till completion of festivities and dispersal of crowd. A total of 22 emergency response patrol vehicles will also be on rounds, Mr. Agrawal said.

Not allowed

The Police Commissioner reiterated that all celebrations should conclude by midnight. Misbehaviour and harassment of women will be dealt with sternly. Drunken driving and stunts like wheeling and drag racing are strictly prohibited. Use of loudspeakers will require prior permission, while DJs are strictly prohibited. Nuisance like drinking, creating noise, or throwing bottles on streets is prohibited. People have also been barred from bursting crackers or engaging in activities that disturb peace. Strict action will be taken against drunken driving, drug-related offences, and other unlawful activities.

People can reach the police on 112 who will disperse Emergency Response vehicles in few minutes, Mr. Agrawal stated.
