Mangalore, Aug 2, 2013: Broken name boards, cracked and parched walls which haven’t seen paint for ages, broken plastic trays, leaking roofs etc etc. In total, this building has found temporary relief, thanks to the patch works done by merchants themselves. This is no story of any fort or historic structure, but the pathetic tale of the Central Market Building located at the heart of Mangalore.
The MCC which is regular in collecting rent from the merchants engaged in business here, however turn a deaf ear to appeals to repair the building. The officials have visited the market several times to hear the woes of the merchants and inspect the condition of the building, but have done nothing more than that. The merchants of Central Market can now do nothing but curse the authorities and elected representatives for their lackadaisical approach.
