A dharna seeking to name Mangalore airport after Rani Abbakka

Mangalore, Jan 30, 2013: A demonstration was held in front of the DC office in Mangalore on January 30, Wednesday under the aegis of the Veerarani Abbakka Utsava Samithi, Ullal demanding the naming of the Mangalore International airport after the valiant queen of Ullal Rani Abbakka.
Speaking on the occasion, K Jayaram Shetty, Honorary President of the Samithi and former MLA said that naming of the international airport after Abbakka would also help more and more people to know about her greatness. He said the airport authorities have assured to forward the request made by the Samithi to the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Speaking about the Abbakka Utsav organised by the Samithi every year, he claimed that conflicts and tension have reduced to a great extent in communally sensitive Ullal ever since the festival is organized.
Several leaders including Dinker Ullal, Secretary of the Samithi, Annayya Kulal, Ravindra Shetty of KJP and others were present.
