Mangaluru, April 18, 2025: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Mangaluru District unit, will shortly hold ‘Save Mangalore University’ campaign to highlight the alleged corruption, maladministration and closure of some courses.
Talking to reporters in Mangaluru on Thursday, ABVP Mangaluru District unit convenor Suvith Shetty said the University was plagued with corruption charges. The latest being the charge of use of ₹7 crore, out of ₹20 crore, of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan funds for construction of non-existent boys and girls hostels.
Following a report submitted to the Chief Secretary, notice was recently issued to Vice-Chancellor P.L. Dharma seeking his explanation. He has taken 15 days to reply. “This corruption charge is really serious. All university officials who are behind this misappropriation should be suspended forthwith,” he said.
Another ABVP district office bearer, Madan, said nothing has been done by the government to improve basic infrastructure in the university and its constituent colleges. Because of this reason and also due to absence of skill-based curriculum and lack placement facility, students are not enrolling for courses.
The university has already closed seven post-graduate courses for lack of students and six more courses are set to be closed this academic year. Neither the government nor the elected representatives are ready to address issues plaguing the university, he alleged.
