Mangaluru, April 5, 2025: Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal has asked Assistant Commissioner of Police Dhanya Nayak to inquire into allegation of corruption against Ullal Police Inspector H.N. Balakrishna.
In a petition to Mr. Agrawal, mother of a youth, who was arrested by Ullal Police in connection with theft in the house of an elderly woman in Ullal in June 2024, alleged that the Inspector took from his son his 50 gram gold ornaments by stating that these are ornaments were related to theft. The official had said that these ornaments will be mentioned in the chargesheet and family members can get it released from the court, the mother alleged.
To their surprise these ornaments did not figure in the chargesheet. She alleged that the Inspector has kept the ornaments with him. She further alleged that the officer had taken from her in June 2024 ₹3 lakh to close the case. She demanded disciplinary action against the police Inspector.
Talking to reporters here on Friday on the sidelines of a programme organised by city police to honour 22 city police personnel who received Chief Minister’s police medal recently, Mr. Agrawal said veracity of the allegations is being verified. He has asked Ms. Nayak to conduct preliminary inquiry and submit a report.
