Mangaluru, Aug 25, 2023: An accused in a criminal case against whom there was a court warrant consumed pesticide and attempted suicide as cops arrived to arrest him at Mulki on August 24, Thursday.

The accused identified as Karunaker Shetty (44) from Muchur village has been hospitalized. He was wanted in a case reported from Bajpe police station limits in the year 2017 and had a court warrant. Cops who gathered information that he worked in a bar at Shivalli went there on Thursday evening.

On seeing the cops Shetty went inside saying he would wear his dress and come but consumed pesticide. He fell ill while being escorted in a police vehicle.

He was immediately shifted to the community health centre at Mulki and then to a hospital in Mangaluru for higher treatment.
