Actress Padmaja Rao gets 3 months jail in cheque bounce case

Mangaluru, August 27, 2024: The 8th JMFC Court of Mangaluru has sentenced actress Padmaja Rao to three months of simple imprisonment and has imposed a penalty of Rs 40.20 lakhs on her in a cheque bounce case.

The actress who had availed a loan of Rs 40 lakhs from Veeru talkies owner and Mangaluru resident Veerendra Shetty had given cheque of the Banashankari branch of ICICI Bank in Bengaluru on June 17, 2020 as a surety. However when Shetty deposited the cheque he came to know that the account did not have that much cash.

Subsequently, he had served a notice on June 30, 2020 asking the actress to clear the loan within 15 days but of no avail. Shetty had then moved the court.

However during the hearing, Padmaja had argued that she had not availed any loan or issued any cheque, but failed to provide evidence to substantiate her claims.

The 8th JMFC Court which concluded the hearing. has directed the actress to pay Rs 40.20 lakhs as fine.
