Mijar, Feb 14: Shri Boothanatheshwara Kreedotsava, a festival of village sports, was jointly organized by the Shasthavu Shri Boothanatheshwara Temple and Shri Bhootanatheshwara Bhajana Mandali of Badaga Yedapadavu at Mijar on Feb 12 – 13, 2011.

The purpose of organizing this unique village sports event was to rejuvenate the traditional games and sports of Tulunadu, which comprises DK, Kasargod, and Udupi.


The festival included a number of competitions for men, women, children, and senior citizens. Cash prizes, along with gold, silver, and bronze medals, were distributed among the winners.

Shri Boothanatheshwara Kreedotsava included events such as drawing competitions, cycle race, gunny bag race, mud field race (for couples), natural body building, crawling race, coconut beedie rolling, coconut throw, weaving coconut leaves, rangoli contests, best looking kori (rooster), and best decorated cow. More than 1,300 people participated in 21 village games.


This unique event culminated in a splendid dance performance by Padmashri Shobana, actress and Bharatanatyam artiste, on Feb 13, Sunday.
