Kundapura, September 2, 2024: Following a request from the coastal Christian community, Member of Parliament Kota Srinivas Poojary has directed the Konkan Railway Corporation to announce a special train between Velankanni and Madgaon.

In a petition submitted to the Kundapura Railway Committee, the Kundapura Christian community requested the initiation of a special Velankanni train for the Velankanni festival held in September. Acting on this request, the President of the Kundapura Railway Committee, Ganesh Puthran, urged the MP to consider the plea.

In response, during a meeting with the Managing Director of the Konkan Railway Corporation last week, the MP gave clear instructions regarding the special Velankanni train. Based on these instructions, the Konkan Railway has announced yesterday that a special train will depart from Madgaon at 12 PM on September 6, reach Kundapura at 4:20 PM, and arrive in Velankanni at 12 PM the next day.

The return journey will start at 11:50 PM on the same day, reaching Kundapura by 6:40 PM the next evening and arriving in Madgaon by 11 PM. Depending on the response to this special train, a regular service might be considered in the future, according to sources.
