Mangaluru, Jan 17, 2025: Armed men looted gold and other valuables from the Kotekar Vyavasaya Seva Sahakara Sangha near Ullal on Friday noon, even as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was in the city. The incident, described as a stark reflection of the deteriorating law and order situation in Karnataka, drew sharp criticism from Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta.
In a statement, MP Chowta termed the robbery "shameful" and called for urgent action to trace and punish the culprits. He said the incident underscores how criminals are operating without fear of law enforcement in the state.
“This robbery, along with recent incidents such as the ATM heist in Bidar and the gruesome act of slashing cows’ udders in Bengaluru, highlights the alarming rise in crime due to the collapse of law and order in Karnataka,” he stated.
Chowta also pointed to a recent case near Vitla, where miscreants posed as Enforcement Directorate officials to dupe a resident of lakhs of rupees, as further evidence of lawlessness.
As the State Secretary of the BJP, Chowta urged the government to take swift measures to restore public confidence in the police and ensure that justice prevails.
