The Mayor  who  addressed a meeting of artistes of different art forms at her chamber here on June 17, Saturday  said  a committee comprising artistes practising different  forms of art would be constituted to  find suitable solutions to the several problems faced while presenting  programmes at Town Hall.

Speaking on behalf of the artistes Ashok Shetty Sarapady  made an appeal to provide concession in rent for those  cultural programmes that have free entry and to fix the rent at Rs 10,000 for other programmes where entry is by ticket.

Noted Yakshagana Bhagavatha Satish Patla who was also present  said the Town Hall which was accessible even to the poor  to arrange programmes in the past was not reachable to them after its renovation. If booking was permissible   upto six months in advance in the past at present the  time has been reduced to two months, he said.

The increase in rent of Town Hall has forced art troupes to rely on temple premises and other auditoriums elsewhere, regretted noted artiste Devadas Kapikad of Telikeda Bolli fame.

Eminent theatrical personality Vijaykumar Kodialbail said  artistes ought to have  been taken into confidence while renovating Town Hall.

Musician Nityananda Rao pointed out at the discrepancies in the seating arrangement  with not enough space between rows. Even the seats are quite high and the number of seats  which was 1008  has now reduced to 888 after renovation, he pointed out.

The mini hall adjacent to Town Hall lacks facilities, complained artiste and writer Shivananda Karkera.

Mayor Kavitha said online booking of Town Hall will also be possible within the next 15 days. However, when some expressed reservations, the Mayor said the online booking facility will be introduced on an experimental basis.

Former mayor Mahabala Marla, Standing Committee Chief Sabitha Misquith, Opposition Leader Ganesh Hosabettu, Commissioner Mohammad Nazeer and others were present.
