Mangalore, Dec 18, 2012: As many as 31 people including Sri Rama Sene activists who have been protesting against the Canara Pre-University College authorities, following Monday’s row over an Ayyappa Vrithadhari student, were arrested by the police on December 18, Tuesday.
The protest was being held under the leadership of Sri Rama Sene leader Kumar Malemar. Some students, Sri Rama Sene activists and Ayyappa Vrithadharis were part of the protest.
As reported earlier, it was alleged that the College Principal had asked Rakshith Rao, an Ayyappa Vrithadhari and I PUC student, to attend classes after trimming his hair, shaving his beard and wearing the Ayyappa black shawl inside his uniform shirt. The problem arose when the student refused to comply with the orders. He had then approached the Sri Rama Sene whose leaders arrived at the college, entered into an argument with the Principal and then sat on a dharna on December 17, Monday after the Principal was firm and said rules had to be followed.
On Tuesday, the protest had continued with the agitators demanded that the college should allow Ayyappa Vrithadhari student to observe the rituals.
