Mayor Rajani Duggana said that the protest has been staged against the UPA government, which makes poor people suffer by raising the prices of basic necessities. She pointed out that all homes have an LGP cylinder, but none of them have the facilities for cooking with firewood; therefore, poor people will have a tough time to eat one square meal a day. She warned that protests will be intensified if the UPA government doesn’t take the required steps to reduce the prices of necessities.

Padmanabha Kottari, the district president of the BJP, said that the UPA government, which calls itself the government of the poor, has made the poor people helpless by raising the price of diesel, petrol, and cooking gas. He accused the UPA government of being opposed to the BJP- led state government in spite of the fact that it is implementing a number of welfare schemes for  the poor and backward class people.

Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar, Monappa Bhandary, Jayaram Shetty, Sharathchandra Shetty, and many other BJP members participated in the protest.
