Mangaluru, Dec 22, 2014: The district unit of the BJP staged a protest in the city on December 22, Monday against the non-appointment of a Commissioner to the Mangalore City Corporation.
Though the party had planned a black flag demonstration against the minister who was scheduled to attend a private function at a city hotel, it could not succeed as the minister cancelled his visit.
Meanwhile, the BJP leaders have said the party will stage black flag demons against the minister during all his visits to the city.
Party leaders said the repeated appeal to appoint a Commissioner have been futile and alleged developmental initiatives in the city have been hindered in the absence of a Commissioner since the past six months. They alleged that differences within the Congress had led to the failure of the government to appoint a Commissioner.
A large number of BJP workers were present for the protest held near the party office in the city. The police detained several protestors when there was some sort of chaos at the venue.
Several party leaders including former MLC Monappa Bhandari and corporator Premanand Shetty participated in the protest.
