BJP to hold ‘Janakrosha Yatra’ in Dakshina Kannada on April 9

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, April 1, 2025: The BJP will hold ‘Janakrosha Yatra’ in Dakshina Kannada on April 9 to condemn the price hike and reservation in government contracts for Muslims, Dakshina Kannada BJP President Sathish Kumpala told media persons.

He said that ‘Janakrosha Yatra’ will be held in four phases to create awareness among people on the anti-people policies of the Congress-led government in Karnataka. Protests are being organised in response to the state government imposing "financial burdens on the poor". "On the one hand, the state government is giving in the name of guarantees, on the other hand, it is increasing the price of essential commodities and taking away from the people," he said.

The district BJP unit will conduct the ‘Janakrosha Yatra’ by holding padayatra for two to three kilometres. The place of the yatra and the names of the state-level leaders attending the yatra will be finalised shortly, he added.

Ever since the Congress government came to power, milk prices have been hiked thrice. In addition to this, electricity fare has been hiked by 36 paise, stamp duty, petrol, diesel price, OPD registration fee, death certificate fee, postmortem certificate fee, medical certificate fee, taxes and service charges, water tariff, cess on garbage, seed prices have been hiked. This is directly burdening the citizens, he said.

He alleged that the government is only engaged in appeasement politics and is mired in corruption.

MLAs’ suspension condemned

Coming down heavily on the suspension of 18 MLAs, Kumpala alleged that by suspending BJP MLAs, Speaker U T Khader has proved that he is “Speaker of the Congress.”

“When Khader became Speaker, we all had high expectations from him as he would help in the development of the district,” he said.

He questioned the fairness of suspending BJP MLAs without any inquiry for merely opposing the government. The Speaker should show through the video what mistakes two MLAs from the district -- Dr Y Bharath Shetty and Umanath Kotian -- have committed in the assembly, he said and asked the Speaker to withdraw the suspension orders.

There are burning issues in Dakshina Kannada and in Mangaluru constituency, which the Speaker represents. Instead of solving the issues of sea erosion and drinking water woes in Mangaluru constituency, the Assembly Speaker is engaged in politics. The BJP will fight against the suspension of MLAs, he said.
