Mangaluru, April 12, 2025: Mangaluru City South MLA D. Vedavyasa Kamath and outgoing councillors of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Friday, chided the corporation that is now under the administrator for failing to execute pre-Monsoon maintenance works of rajakaluves and shoulder drains in the city.
In a statement here, Mr. Kamath said when the BJP was at the helm of affairs of the corporation, it used to complete all pre-monsoon works, including desilting and clearing weeds from the drains, and other activities by March-end.
However, the present dispensation of the administrator under the Congress government has not undertaken any works even by mid-April. Because of the inaction by the district administration and the corporation, waterlogging and artificial floods were witnessed even during the recent summer showers, including that of Friday’s, the MLA said.
The district in-charge Minister should have conducted a review meeting about Monsoon preparedness, including that of clearing drains, pruning tree branches, garbage issue and many more. As the Minister himself was not keen, the bureaucracy has not been active. Mr. Kamath alleged that the Congress government has intentionally been neglecting Mangaluru and coastal districts.
