Mangalore, January 4: Karnataka’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday took early leads in polls to the Zilla panchayat for the first time, by bagging 24 out of 35 seats in Dakshina Kannada district.

BJP has secured 24 constituencies out of 35 Zilla Panchayat constituencies in Dakshina Kannada district leaving only 11 to Congress. Out of five Taluk Panchayats of the district four fell into the hands of BJP. In Dakshina Kannada district, the counting of votes cast during the recently concluded ZP/TP polls held on Dec 31 commenced at 8:00 a.m at Rosario College. For the first time, the commission has used electronic voting machines for these elections. Results are expected to be declared around 4 p.m.


Hundreds of candidates contested for 35 ZP seats and 129 TP seats in Mangalore, Puttur, Sullia, Bantwal, Belthangady, and so on; and the results are expected to be out this noon.

 

The counting centres are Rosario Pre University College, Mangalore; Infant Jesus English Medium School, Modankap; Shri SDM College, Ujire; St. Philomena College, Darbe, and Nehru Memorial College, Kurunji Bagh. District administration has made elaborated arrangements for the vote counting where large number of police personnel from the district has been deployed around St Rosario Composite PU College in the city.

 

BJP takes early lead in Puttur Taluk, Belthangady:

Karnataka’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday took early leads in Puttur Taluk Panchayath polls to the local governing councils.Out of the 22 Taluk panchayath seats BJP took a lead of 16 seats and in Zilla panchayath out of 6 seats BJP has taken 5 seats.


However, BJP emerges victorious in Puttur Taluk bagging the lead position.

Belthangady: BJP has made a glorious victory by bagging 5 seats out of the 6 in Zilla Panchayath and 19 out of 24 seats in Taluk Panchayath at Belthangady.

BJP wins a majority 16 seats in Udupi

Udupi, January 4: According to the results announced today, the BJP has won the Udupi ZP polls with a majority of 16 to 9 seats. The BJP has also won in Kundapur, Karkala, and Udupi Taluk Panchayats too.


ZP Vice President Dr. Santhosh Shetty, former ZP President Sarasu Bangera (Congress), former TP President Shyamala Sudhakar (BJP), District BJP Mahila Morcha President Reshma Udaya Shetty, and former ZP Member Sharada Bijoor (Congress) are the major losers of these polls.


The ZP Udupi winners are Katapapady Shankar Poojary (Kaup-BJP), Sunitha Rajaram Poojary (Kota – BJP), Jyothi (Mandarthi-BJP), Mallika (Kallianapura- Cong), Upendra Nayak (Hiriadka-BJP), Ida Stella D’Souza (Shirva- Cong), Diwakar Kundar (Udyavara – Cong), Arun Shetty (Yellur –BJP), Geethanjali Suvarna (Padubidri –BJP), Mallika Balakrishna Poojary (Brahmavar- Cong), Gopi Naik (Perdoor- Cong), Suprith Shetty (Belman-Cong), Manjunath (Hebri- Cong), Savitha Shivananda (Bailur-BJP), Udaya S Kotian (Miyaru- BJP), Mamatha Harish Adhikari (Bajagoli – BJP), Gowri Devadiga (Shiroor – BJP), Supritha Deepak Shetty (Baidore- Cong), T Babu Shetty (Kambadakone- BJP), Ananth Movadi (Thrasi- Cong), Indira Shetty Aloor (Vandse-BJP), Prakash Mendon (Basroor-BJP), Ganapathi Shriyan (Koteshwara –BJP), Mamatha Shetty (Siddapura-BJP), and Rashwath Shetty (Haladi-BJP).

The BJP won 23 seats in the Udupi TP, the Congress won 17 seats, and the CPI (M) won one seat. In Kundapur TP, the BJP won 22 seats, the Congress won 12, and an independent candidate called Rehamahulla in Tonse won the elections. While the Congress won 6 TP seats in Karkala, the BJP won 13.
