BSNL to monetize 14 land parcels in Karnataka, including prime Mangaluru property

Mangaluru, June 28, 2024: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is set to monetize 14 land parcels in Karnataka, including a two-acre property in Mangaluru, according to Ujwal Gulhane, the chief general manager of BSNL, Karnataka Telecom Circle.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Gulhane announced that the BSNL Store-yard Compound at Kadri Hills in Mangaluru, adjacent to Kadri Park, will be e-auctioned. "We have identified 14 land parcels in Karnataka to be monetized within the next year. In the first phase, the land parcels in Mangaluru and Mysuru will be monetized. Currently, all of BSNL’s revenue goes toward operating expenses. There is also a need for capital expenditure to upgrade technology. Therefore, BSNL has decided to monetize its land assets," he said.

The Mangaluru land parcel will be e-auctioned with a reserve price of Rs 39 crore and an EMD of Rs 1.9 crore, with July 1 as the last date for bid submission. Other properties in Mangaluru up for auction include the Bajal BTS site, KS Rao Nagar, Yekkur (approximately 30 cents), Microwave Staff Quarters Compound, Kunjathbail (2,592 sqm), and TE Compound in Bolar (13 cents), he added.

"BSNL is about to roll out a standalone ’Make in India’ 4G network, which will be upgradable to 5G in the future. BSNL plans to commission 672 towers for the 4G network in the Mangaluru operational area, including 444 in Dakshina Kannada district and 228 in Udupi. Trial tests of 20 towers have been conducted in two districts for the 4G network," Gulhane said. He also mentioned that BSNL has 4.6 lakh mobile SIM users with a daily data traffic of 21TB.
