The accident happened while Guruprasad and Anarghya were traveling from their home in Ujire to their ancestral home in Kalmanja Village, Belthangady. The Bolero struck their bike at Seetu Mundaje on the national highway and fled the scene. Anarghya was rushed to a private hospital in Ujire but succumbed to her injuries on the way to the government hospital in Beltangady. Guruprasad sustained fractures and is currently recovering in a private hospital in Ujire.

After the collision, the occupants of the Bolero attempted to escape via the Seetu-Karyathodi road. However, they were stopped by locals and workers engaged in electricity line work, who handed them over to the Beltangady police. Four youths were in the jeep, but one managed to escape. The police have taken three into custody and handed them over to Dharmasthala police for further interrogation. Reports confirm that the youths were under the influence of alcohol.

Guruprasad had rented a house in Ujire for his children’s education due to the difficulty of commuting to their remote ancestral home. As it was a school holiday on Sunday, father and daughter were traveling to visit their ancestral home.

Anarghya, a bright student, is survived by her parents and a toddler sister.
