Udupi, July 23, 2020: Udupi district administration reopened its border as per the direction of the state government, on Wednesday. The border was sealed as a measure to check the spread of Covid-19 a week ago.
With the state government announcing no further lockdown, the district administration gave its signal for the buses to ply. Only a few buses had operated on Wednesday.
Private buses operated on a few routes like Karkala, Kundapura, Baindoor,
Hebri, Hiriyadka, Brahmavar and Kaup in the district. However, there were only a few passengers who opted to travel on buses.
There was no bus service to the neighbouring Mangaluru. Depending on the demand from passengers, bus service will be operated to Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Hubballi and Dakshina Kannada from Thursday, said, drivers.
KSRTC too operated its service on a few routes in the district. Interdistrict bus service will commence from Thursday, said Udupi KSRTC depot staff.
Fearing the spread of Covid-19, not many are showing interest in bus travel, said, bus owners.
The Nagara sarige buses to Udupi, Manipal and other surrounding areas did not operate.
