Mangalore Today News Network

Byndoor, March 03, 2016:  If everything goes as per plan, then Byndoor Mookambika Railway Station would soon get  a major facelift  under Public Private Participation Model. The important  station which provides a link to the historic Kollur Sri Mookambika shrine is also the highest revenue earning station next to Udupi railway station in the district. Presently, a Delhi based company named  M.C.C. has evinced interest in investing in the upgradation of the railway station. Already,  the first  round of talks with Konkan Railway authorities have been held. A team of officials is likely to visit Byndoor very soon for an on-the spot inspection.

Though the station was initially much neglected and was identified in the ’F’ category of railway stations, it saw some progress owing to the ceaseless efforts of locals and Railway Yatri Sangha.

Presently, the station is placed in `B’ category. The Railway Department  along with the state government had framed a  Rs 16 crore development project by utilising the MP Fund for this station. Though  works costing Rs 4 crore are complete, further development was hindered for want of funds.

At the present juncture, the plans to develop the station under PPP Model has come in as a ray of hope.
