CM, BJP laud Mangaluru city police for cracking a major drug trafficking network

Mangaluru, March 17, 2025: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday lauded the Mangaluru City police’s effort in arresting two South African women and seizing 37 kg of MDMA worth ₹75 crore, which is the highest value of drugs recovered by the State police so far.

In a statement on X, Mr. Siddaramaiah said with such huge seizure the city police have prevented a likely danger to youth.

The Chief Minister said the government, from the day one of its rule, has been committed to create a society free of addiction. As a part of it, anti drug free campaign is being held against drug consumers and peddlers.  

“During my visit to Mangaluru, I had assured people of Dakshina Kannada making the district free of drugs. As part of this drive, the city police have succeeded in seizing a large quantity of drugs. The government is committed to root out the network of drug peddlers in the State,” he stated.

Dakshina Kannada District in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said the government will continue with the anti-drugs campaign to prevent youth from becoming victims of drug addiction.

District BJP president Satish Kumpala said drug menace is causing serious repercussion to Mangaluru, which is attracting people from across the country for its education, health and business facilities.  By seizing large quality of drugs, the Mangaluru City police have sent a stern message to drug peddlers, Mr. Kumpala said.
