Mangaluru, Apr 6, 2025: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Saturday announced that the newly constructed District Collector’s office at Padil in Mangaluru will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah before the end of April.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the complex on April 5 along with senior officials, the Minister said the contractor has been directed to complete all major works by April 15, with the entire facility, barring some interior work in the auditorium, expected to be ready by April 20.
The foundation stone for the complex was laid by Mr. Siddaramaiah during his previous tenure as Chief Minister. Along with the new district office, the CM is also scheduled to inaugurate the newly built indoor stadium at Urwa and the Praja Soudha at Moodbidri during his visit.
The new district office complex, built on an 8-acre site in Padil, will accommodate nearly 30 government departments in addition to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. These include the offices of the district treasury, sub-registrar, mines and geology, education, social welfare, and the department for women and child development, Deputy Commissioner M.P. Mullai Muhilan said.
Minister Rao expressed confidence that the new facility would enable government staff to serve the public more effectively and help in better implementation of government schemes.
While the initial project cost was estimated at ₹56 crore, the final expenditure rose to ₹76 crore. The additional ₹20 crore was funded by Mangaluru Smart City Limited, and no further cost escalation is expected, the Minister clarified.
He also reiterated the administration’s plan to repurpose the old DC office at Bunder into a museum. The historic building will also be used for hosting heritage-related events and other cultural activities. Minor repairs will be undertaken to keep the existing structure functional.
