Mangaluru, July 19, 2022: The team from Canara High School (CBSE) emerged as winners at the Green Quiz 2022, an inter-school environment quiz contest organised Centre for Integrated Learning(CIL) in association with Lions and Leo Club Mangalore at Lions Seva Mandir on Saturday (July 16).  The team comprising of K Akash M Rao and Saaranga Rao prevailed over the Roy Vince Saldanha and Aryan Bindal of St. Theresa’s School who were declared Runner-up while Samyak Yogeesha and Sourav Krishna of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) School came third in the event organised as part of the Green Month.

In the open to all category, Vraddhi V Jain and Nidhi Sarah John from Lourdes Central School bagged the first place leaving behind Louren Patrao and Medhansh Vats from the same school in second place.

Distributing the awards Green Activist and Trustee of Vana Charitable Trust Jeeth Milan Roche lamented that the educated people of the city continue to maintain a `Taken for Granted’ attitude. He squarely blamed the people and their attitude for the destruction of environment and the havoc that is being created today. He said that the children were the only hope who should seriously understand the worsening situation and act responsibly.

Speaking on the occasion, Lions Multiple Council Chairman Vasanth Kumar Shetty stressed the need for service organisations to come forward and support the cause of environmental protection and save further deterioration.

In recognition of her contribution to preserving environment by planting and nurturing saplings throughout the city, activist Selma Maria Roche was felicitated on the occasion. Selma Roche has the distinction of planting over one lakh saplings in the past one and half decades along with her husband Jeeth and two children.

The quiz was conducted by former Botany professor of St. Aloysius College and Chief Traffic Warden, Mangalore Police Prof. M L Sureshnath .

Executive Director of CIL Sachitha Nandagopal welcomed the gathering and President of Lions Club Mangalore H Gurupreeth Alva proposed the vote of thanks. Secretary of Lions Club Indira A Shetty, President of Leo Club Jayalakshmi among others were present on the occasion. The valedictory function was compered by Aanya Dhiraj Shetty and Andrea Deana Pinto.
