VS-Acharya dec 23Mangalore, Dec 23: Higher Education Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya informed reporters at a press conference held in the BJP office on Dec 23, Thursday that this is the fourth Zilla Panchayat election and that the opposition parties were attempting to capture votes by giving false statistics about the state government’s development projects.

Stating that the government has modified the constitution to provide 50 percent reservation for women, he said that the state government will likewise bring about changes in the Gram Panchayath, owing to which the district administration, the financial statistics, and other systems will be strengthened.

Speaking about the development projects launched by the state government, he said that, during its 30 months in power, the state government has worked hard for the creation of Suvarna Karnataka. The development projects launched by the BJP-led state government are worth nearly Rs. 1000 crore and neither the Congress nor the JD (S) can dream ever dream of achieving this, he added.

Around Rs. 250 – Rs 300 crore will be loaned to farmers at the rate of 1 percent interest as part of a rural development scheme, he said, adding that the road development work worth Rs. 1,066 will be done for the first time in the state under the guidance of the present chief minister.

Reacting to the Congress leaders’ public statements that all development in the state is funded by the central government, he said that the central government is bound by law to give part of its funds to the state and that they are not doing it as a special favor, but only because it is their duty.

Stating that the UPA has failed in several states in various elections, he said that in the state alone 7 elections have been held and the BJP has won majority votes.

Dr. Ravindran, the advisor to the CM, said that the government has been doing various developmental work in the state and that a document titled “Vision 20 – 20” will be prepared to illustrate the various directions in which development is taking place in Karnataka.
