Mangalore, January 2: The central government, having realized that the country’s vast coast offers myriad opportunities for terrorist forces to attack and having taken into consideration that the terrorist forces responsible for the recent terror attacks on Mumbai had taken the sea route, has finally begun securing the coastline. The latest security measures include the introduction of speed boats.
The New Mangalore Port received a speed boat made in Dubai last year. This boat, which is anchored near the fishing jetty, is currently being serviced. The boat comprises the latest VAH, VHF, HF, satellite phone, eco sounder, global positioning system, walkie-talkie, radar, and many other useful devices. Later, the boat will be shifted to Vishakapattanam port in Andhra Pradesh.
Three such speed boats have been imported by the Central Industrial Security Force and supplied by the Harshavardhan Marine Services of Mumbai at the cost of Rs 1.5 crore per boat. The boats will be used exclusively for security-enhancement activities at Tuticorin and Ennore ports in Tamil Nadu and at Vishakapattanam in Andhra Pradesh.
