Mangalore, January 25: Good moral values inculcated in children, along with religious knowledge, will go a long way in making them good citizens of the land, said Sri Gangadharendra Saraswathi Swamiji of Sonda Swarnavalli Mutt.
He was delivering the key-note address at the valedictory of the two month long Sri Bhagavadgita campaign held under his guidance. The function was held at the Nehru Maidan in the city on January 25, Monday. The event was earlier inaugurated by the special children from Chethana School. Large number of students from various schools participated and recited Bhagavadgita slokas, ‘Vedas’ and ‘Dhyan shloka’.
Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt, in his address, said that the future of the country was not decided by watching the stars in the sky, but by seeing the stars on the earth shining through children.
“No doubt an individual should have love towards his religion and also read the holy epics, but duty should always come first and then the love towards his religion,” the seer observed.
Sri Ramananda Swamiji of Kolya Mutt, said parents instead of giving mobile phones to their children should give them a copy of Bhagavadgita, which can help them in future.
Sri Dharmapalnath Swamiji of Adhichunchanagiri Mutt, emphasized the need to encourage students to take part in extra-curricular activities.
The healthy life style which our ancestors practiced is missing in the present generation, in turn increasing the incidence of several incurable diseases like HIV+, he said.
Sri Esha Vittaladasa Swamiji of Kemaru Sandeepani Ashram and Sri Rajashekarananda Swamiji of Vajradehi Mutt also delivered the benedictory speech on the occasion.
