Mangalore, June 4: The children of the DK police personnel, who have excelled in academics, extracurricular activities, and sports, were felicitated on June 4, Friday. Children of police personnel, who had stored 90 - 98 percent in academics, were rewarded with books. 

Chancellor of NITTE Deemed University and Chairman of Lamina Group of Companies Vinay Hegde was the chief guest of the event. He said that reservation should be provided in schools for the children of police officers and soldiers. 

T. C. Shivashankar Murthy, the vice chancellor of Mangalore University; Dr. Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, the superintendent of police (SP); Gopal B. Hosur, the inspector general of police (IGP); and R. Ramesh, the additional superintendent of police (ASP) were the guests of honor. 

Mr. Hosur thanked the ASP and the additional SP who had worked hard to make the programme a success. Expressing his joy and pride to be part of the police department, he lauded his co-workers for their abilities to tackle all sorts of problems such as communal riots and the recent plane crash. 

R. Ramesh thanked the School Book Company for providing books at a discount of 55 percent, adding that the maximum discount available even in Mysore was 12 percent. He also thanked Karnataka Bank for providing the venue to conduct the programme.
