Chitramaya and Art Kanara Trust to present "Life in a Bowl" series Kolkata: Photography exhibition

Mangaluru, September 12, 2024: Chitramaya, in association with Art Kanara Trust, will host "Life in a Bowl" Series Kolkata, a photography exhibition featuring the vibrant city of Kolkata as captured by renowned photographers Prakash Braggs and Sachin Shetty. The exhibition will run from September 14 to 22 at the Kodialguthu Center for Art and Culture, GG Road, Ballalbhag, Mangaluru. It is curated and coordinated by Chitramaya and Art Kanara Trust, with support from Mindcraft Studios and S Cube Art Gallery.

The opening ceremony on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 5:00 PM will feature distinguished guests Jayanth Kodkani, writer and former Associate Editor of Times of India, Bengaluru; Gurudath Kamath, eminent photographer; and Yajneshwara Acharya (Yajna), veteran photographer. A special screening of a documentary film about Kolkata, especially its food stories, will follow the inauguration at 7:00 PM.

Additionally, on Sunday, September 15, a feature film ‘Dhushor’ directed by Purandar Chaudhuri will be screened at the same venue at 7:00 PM. On Sunday, September 22, a workshop on fashion photography will be conducted by Sachin Shetty. The exhibition will be open daily from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM until September 22, with free admission for all.


A captivating journey through time


"Life in a Bowl" is a compelling series that explores the past, present, and future of cities through their people, culture, and cuisine. In this Kolkata edition, Prakash Braggs and Sachin Shetty offer an immersive visual journey through the city’s rich cultural fabric, diverse culinary scene, and warm-hearted people. The exhibition features striking photographs, Cyanotype prints, a documentary, and a feature film. Established in 2021 by Purandar Chaudhuri, Chiraag Paul, Sachin Shetty, and Prakash Braggs, the Life in a Bowl Collective combines photography, documentary, art, and unique merchandise to narrate the evolving stories of cities worldwide.

About Dhushor (Feature Film)


The experimental film Dhushor directed by Purandar Chaudhuri will be screened on September 15, offering a unique cinematic experience. Using montages, visuals, and natural sound, the film delves into the existential themes of emptiness and an unceasing quest for purity, magic and bliss. Dhushor invites viewers to engage deeply and interpret its themes personally. Despite its modest budget, the film pays homage to the rich history of cinema. Dhushor was featured in the NFDC viewing room at the 2024 Mumbai International Film Festival.

Prakash Braggs

Prakash Braggs is a globally renowned photographer who has dedicated the past twenty-five years in capturing stunning images of food, people, products, and interiors. He earned his degree from the esteemed Brooks Institute in California, USA, and had the privilege of collaborating with some of America’s most talented photographers. In addition to his photography career, Prakash has also served as an adjunct lecturer at Murdoch University in Dubai, where he shared his knowledge, experience and expertise with aspiring photographers.

Sachin Shetty is an accomplished advertising photographer and cinematographer hailing from Kasargod. He graduated from NICC Bangalore with a focus on commercial and advertising photography, particularly in fashion and lifestyle. His work has been showcased in numerous solo exhibitions at prestigious galleries across India. Sachin’s deep passion for art is reflected in his creative approach, blending aesthetic vision with technical expertise.
