Christian businessmen in Udupi launch Udupi Christian Chamber of Commerce

Udupi, August 29, 2011: The International Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations (IFKCA), Udupi unit, organized a Christian business meet at the Madhava Krishna Hall of Hotel Kediyoor on Aug 28 Sunday. The Udupi Christian Chamber of Commerce was launched and Jerry Vincent Dias of Mandavi Builders was elected as its first president.

The office bearers of the newly formed organization are Santhosh D’Silva (vice president), a businessman of Karkala; Alwyn Quadros (general secretary) of DuroPlast; Joel Mathaias (joint secretary) of Karkala; Robert Furtado (treasurer) of Ruchi Food Products.

The committee members are Wilson D’Souza of Phoenix Studio, Terrance Suvaris of Regal Builders and Developers, Joshwin Kunder, Edward D’Souza of Electronic Complex, Prashanth Jathanna, Derrick D’Souza of Sushma Wines, Johnson D’Almeida, Vinod Crasta, Gregory Menezes, Jerald D’Silva, and Leo Pereira.

Jacob Crasta, the MD and CEO of CM Envirosystems Pvt. Ltd. at Bangalore and previous president of FKCCI, presided over the event.

The prominent entrepreneurs on the dais were Jerry Vincent Dias, Ronald Gomes, the proprietor of Sunray Solar Systems and previous president of Rachana, Immanuel Raymond Fernandes, MD of Karnataka Closures Pvt. Ltd., Denis D’Silva, the state convener of IFKCA, Louis Lobo, and Dr. Nery Cornelio.

Jacob Crasta inaugurated the event. In his address, he urged businessmen to think out of the box. Making a reference to the goods service tax, which will come into effect from April 1, 2012, he said that India’s GDP will be in double digits after 2 – 3 years, after which India will be the first in world economy. He also said that if the parliament passes a few bills such as Proposed Electoral Reforms and Benami Transactions, nobody can make black money. He also spoke of the importance of developing tourism.

Speaking of the importance of an organization such as Christian Chamber of Commerce in Udupi, he said that the chamber will advice businessmen regarding rules, regulations, laws, taxation, and will assist them in getting benefits from the government.

Gerald Fernandes, the ex president of the Zilla Panchayat; Ida, the member of the Udupi Taluk Panchayat; Roshan Olivera; and Catholic businessmen from all over Udupi district were present.

A fellowship meal formed the end of the event.
